Google has announced that, after the success of their click to call program which allows users to click a phone number and initiate a phone call from a google ad, they are going to introduce a new conversion tracking metric. This metric will allow call tracking from mobile landing pages (after they click through to the site) rather than just from the ad, creating more precise usage statistics.
These statistics will show users the location of the smart phone, local searches and actions taken after those searches in custom reports, which could result in a better idea of how optimising your mobile presence could benefit your company.
At the moment the mobile call tracking feature is free and is only available in the USA. However, it is as yet unknown whether or not they will charge for the mobile service in future, as Google currently charge $1 for every completed call made from a laptop or desktop computer using adwords call metrics.
As part of Dental Design’s elite adwords package we already enable call tracking to ensure that the money you spend on pay per click advertising converts into calls and of course, new patients for your practice. However, if Google do decide to introduce this technology to the UK, we will certainly weigh up the advantages of it for our customers and look into passing on any savings if it is indeed a free service.
