Happy New Year from the tech team at Dental Design! It’s been a fast paced and action packed 12 months for us having to deal with 3 major Google updates and 10 minor ones which have impacted the local search results (see here https://www.seomoz.org/google-algorithm-change). Google certainly keeps us on our toes and it does illustrate that you can’t sit still with SEO. Even if you are currently ranking well, it is important to consolidate your position through SEO work to maintain your rankings.
In light of the New Year, I thought I would go back to basics and offer some simple but at the same time, very important SEO tips. I hope they are of some use!
Create an Effective Meta Title-Tag
The title tag is a critically important factor in achieving high search engine rankings. For those of you who don’t know what a title-tag, it is meta tag used as the title of a website page in the SERP’s (search engine results pages). Google counts this as one of the most important on-page ranking factors, so it is a good idea to optimise it.
Each title-tag should contain location and dental specific keywords relevant to the page. For example, suppose your practice’s name is “Riverside Dental Practice,” and you are located in Guildford, your title tag for your teeth whitening page could be written like this.
Teeth Whitening Guildford – Tooth Whitening – Riverside Dental Practice
Please note, the title tags have a limit of around 70 characters and remember to avoid keyword stuffing.
Target your Keywords
The keywords which will drive the most traffic to your website will be ‘Dentist + your location’ or ‘Treatment + your location’ – make sure your website is optimised for these by including them in your content and meta tags. If you introduce a new treatment at your practice, ensure you add a new page on your website and optimise accordingly.
Write Great Content
Content is king in the eyes for Google, it is now arguably the most important ranking factor.
Great content comes in the form of videos, blogs, podcasts, discussions, infographics, white papers, webinars and articles – all targeted toward what the end user is searching for. Regardless of the medium, the content needs to be compelling. Use any of the following tactics to create audience engagement:
Claim and optimise your Google Business listing
One of the most important SEO tips I can give is to claim and optimise your Google Business listing. Claiming and optimising your GMB listing can have a significant impact on your local SEO. By providing accurate and complete information about your dental practice, you can help Google understand your business and where you’re located. This can lead to higher search rankings, more website traffic, and more new patients.
