One of the things that I wanted to make sure of was that there was still an aesthetic unity to all of the movies, explains Lawrence. "I thought Gary did an amazing job with the world building in The Hunger Games and so we worked with the same production designer to make sure that the Capital was still built from the same architecture and that District 12 still had the same, almost 1930's Appalachia feel."

One of the biggest challenges for Lawrence was creating the Arena.

It a place that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world and so we were going to have to build part of it and shoot different parts in different locations, explains Lawrence. "We ended up building the island and the cornucopia in Atlanta, unfortunately, in 40 degree water, so the actors had to sort of jump in and out of that."

But although viewers can't help but notice the sequel's broader canvas with its technically more ambitious visual scale, producer Nina Jacobson is quick to point out that whatever directions the franchise might go in, concerns over continuity shouldn't be an issue.
