YouTube, the video streaming website, launched eight years ago with a single video; since then, it has entertained and educated the masses serving clips of animals, planking, how tos and even product unboxing!
YouTube was bought in 2006 by Google and now enjoys over a billion unique visitors every month!
“Today, more than 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute,” said YouTube’s blog post. “That's more than four days of video uploaded each minute! Every month, more than [one] billion people come to Youtube to access news, answer questions and have a little fun. That's almost one out of every two people on the internet.”
So is your practice using YouTube to its full potential? Setting up a YouTube channel is a fantastic way of humanising your practice, which is particularly great for nervous patients.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
1) Practice Tours– show potential patients around your practice so they are familiarised before they come, which can help to ease any nerves.
2) Demos– Ask the hygienist to present a ‘how to guide’ on flossing for example.
3) Interviews– The Principal or Practice Manager could talk about the history of the practice, what treatments are offered etc.
Once you’ve uploaded your video to YouTube, it doesn’t have to end there, you can add links to your videos into your Google Places listing giving more authority to the listing making it more likely to show in the search engine results pages. The videos can also be added to your practice website, helping to add fresh content, which helps with SEO and improves the user experience. Additionally, videos can be shared with your social networking pages; videos have a higher edge rank in Facebook making it more likely to appear into your follower’s newsfeed than other posts.
