Try asking ChatGPT or Google’s AI Overviews for a dentist near you. You won’t get ten links to pick from. You’ll get a few names, and the practices on that short list are the ones the AI feels sure about.
That confidence comes from trust signals, which Google has written about for years under the label E-E-A-T. AI search leans on the same signals, so it’s worth knowing what they are and whether your website actually shows them.
E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness. The term comes from the guidelines Google gives its human quality raters, and trust is the part that carries the most weight. It isn’t a ranking score, and nobody can show you your E-E-A-T number. Google’s systems are built to favour sites that show these qualities though, so it’s a good way to look at your own.
Dentistry gets closer scrutiny than most industries. Google treats health advice as “Your Money or Your Life” content, so it wants to see that a real professional is accountable for what each page says.

With a normal search, the patient scans the results and makes the call. With AI search, the system makes the call, and the patient mostly goes along with it. It pulls from your website, your Google Business Profile, directories and reviews, then names a few practices.
That has a few knock-on effects:
Read your key pages the way a nervous patient, or an AI tool, would. These are the questions worth asking.
Experience
Expertise
Authority
Trust
Here’s how that would look in the copy. A weak implant page says:
“We offer the best dental implants in the area. Pain-free and affordable.”
A stronger one says:
“Dr [Name] (GDC no. [number]) has placed implants since [year]. Treatment usually takes [timeframe] under local anaesthetic. Prices start from £[amount], confirmed after your scan.”
The second one names a clinician, gives real details and doesn’t promise more than it can deliver. That’s what raters, regulators and AI tools are all looking for.
E-E-A-T isn’t a one-off job. People join and leave, prices change and new reviews come in, so it helps to check your trust signals on a rhythm. We’ve worked with over 500 dental practices since 2000. Our SEO and dental marketing team can look through your site and copy, show you where your trust signals are weakest and help you strengthen them.
