Purchasing the perfect domain name is an activity that can’t be rushed.
Your domain name reflects your brand. And, whilst most companies focus on obtaining their brand name for their domain, unfortunately another business with a similar name might have snapped up the domain already.
So, what can you do in this situation?
Often you’ll find that when you do a WHOis lookup on the domain it is due to expire soon and if you’re lucky it will be up for grabs.
If it doesn’t look like the domain is due to expire for sometime, all is not lost. If you go to the domain’s website, you might find that it is a parked domain (i.e. not being used for anything) and that if you contact the owner of the domain they might be willing to sell it to you, though this might be at a premium as they would probably want to make some money from it.
The most desirable domain extension to have for your dental practice would be a .co.uk extension. However, if the .co.uk domain isn’t available you might want to look at purchasing the .com version as websites with a .com domain are still considered trustworthy and many UK businesses have .com domains.
As mentioned above, the best domains to have would be either a .co.uk or .com, not because Google favours these types of domains but because users recognise domains like these as being trustworthy. However, sometimes neither of these types of domains are available – what do you do?
Well, some dental practices are looking into purchasing the .dental and .dentist domains. Google have stated that all domains regardless of their extension are treated the same. So does it make sense to purchase these domains?
If you are keen on having a domain that reflects your brand then it is worth purchasing these domains. However, they cost more and users may not trust them as much as .com and .co.uk websites simply because these types of extensions are still relatively new and you don’t see them as much in search results.
