A recent Which? report shows that the UK is still lagging behind in 4G access when compared to London. This is sobering news, when you consider the inertia of the internet, websites and consumer behaviour.
Ofcom have again called on the mobile networks to do more to improve cover. It’s not impossible to get coverage, but the report does highlight the disparity across the UK outside of London.
Here’s the full Which? report
The report summary:
- While 4G customers in the capital can use the speedy network 69.7% of the time, those in Wales have far more limited access and can only get 4G 35.4% of the time.
- Despite London having the greatest chance of getting 4G across the country, the speed is one of the slowest across the regions, likely due to a greater demand causing congestion and slow speeds.
- The good news is that, in most regions, our testers were able to get a 3G or better connection more than 80% of the time, though London was the only region where that number was above 90%.
Which? have built an interactive coverage checker that the general public can download in order to determine the best cover where they live. It can be downloaded as an App here.
