WordPress is a massively popular CMS platform that is used for a range of different websites from blogs to eCommerce.

  2. A friend of WordPress co-founder, Matt Mullenweg, suggested the name “WordPress”, but no one seems to know what inspired the name.

  4. WordPress CMS powers over 28% of all websites with a 59% market share of all known CMSes
  5. Many of Fortune 500 companies use WordPress including Sony Music and Xerox
  6. WordPress started as a blogging platform but due to its growth and development over the years is now being used by businesses, publications and even governments!
  7. There are over 45,000 free plugins in the official WordPress directory
  8. You can make a social network using WordPress
  9. Akismet, WordPress spam filter plugin, catches 7,500,000 pieces of spam per hour
  10. 8% of WordPress security breaches happen as a result of a weak password
  11. Hackers attack WordPress websites both big and small with over 90,000 attacks happening per minute

WordPress has come a long way since it was first launched and, due to its high level of customisation, has grown to be the go-to CMS platform of choice for most websites.
