Voice search usage is seeing unprecedented growth, with personal assistant apps such as Siri and Cortana and devices such as Google Home leading the way. It has been identified by the world’s leading technology providers as a huge opportunity to acquire market share over the next decade.
It’s pretty clear why Voice Search has gathered so much interest; not only do voice assistants seem to agree with our views of what many of us grew up thinking the ‘future’ would look like (think Alien, Star Trek and even the Jetsons), it has also heralded the first real shake-up for the search industry since its inception back in the 90’s.
Google currently holds a dominant position in the western search market (around an 80% market share) but even it needs to continue growing and innovate. Voice search, and the increased number of queries this would deliver if widely adopted, will be very important moving forward.
