Social Media Engagement
4 July 2019 | | Blog, Marketing, Social Media

It’s often underestimated how important the value of engagement is on social media. If you are just shouting into the abyss and not taking the time to truly interact with your current or potential followers, you could be are missing out on big opportunities!

When you start interacting regularly you are then building up relationships it can drive conversions and profits. So why not try and utilise these strategies to help increase social media engagement and improve awareness of your brand.

1. Use Images In Your Posts

Visual content is one of the most powerful tools when it comes to increasing your engagement. Posts with images will generally have a much higher interaction rate than those posts with just text.

Pictures and visual content will automatically draw the eye and increase the chances that people will absorb and interact with your social media posts. Images of people using and enjoying your product or service is always going to be an instant win.

Top Tip: When creating or curating images to share on social media, make sure you are familiar with each platforms technical rules and best practices, get your sizes and resolutions correct!

2. Make It Humorous

If it’s appropriate for your brand, try and incorporate some humour and personality into your social media posts.

More times than most, it can be hard to break through the social media noise in order to get people’s attention. Even avid social media users who follow your brand are likely to scroll right past stories and posts that are overly promotional in nature.

Adding humour tends to add value. This sort of content brings smiles to faces and will foster a more favourable view of your brand. It also makes it more likely that you will see an increase in your social media engagement.

3. Asking For Feedback & Reviews

Want to get your followers talking? Ask them to share their opinions. Many people are happy to talk about the products which they like as well as the ones they feel could use a little improvement. If happy reviewers leave their opinions, they provide valuable information for those who have not yet decided whether or not they wish to use your product or service.

On most sites, it is against policy rules to offer out rewards in exchange for reviews. So, while it seems easy to offer an incentive in exchange for a good review, this action could end up getting your online pages suspended or even taken down altogether. Oops!

4. Prompt Reactions You Want With Emojis

Emoji’s were made for social media, adding in a laughing emoji can set the stage for the humorous reaction you’re looking for. Hearts, smiles and flowers can all indicate friendly feelings.

When you use this method to help increase social media engagement for your brand, just make sure you are using it well. One or two emojis per post will be adequate for most brands. Adding in too many however, and your post may come off as immature or difficult to read and your follows just won’t buy into it!

5. Share Surprising Statistics

One of the best ways to grab someone’s attention is to share a fact or statistic which they didn’t know before. While we usually take to social media to be entertained, a lot of us are happy to be educated while we are there too.

Ideal statistics will help your brand increase social media engagement can pretty much include anything which relates to your industry or the interest of your audience. Some of the best facts are the ones which can be summed up in one brief sentence due to the fact they are more likely to be shared and stick in people’s minds.

You can also opt to use statistics and bits of data to help bring people to your site’s web page. Whenever possible, try and use data to generate interest and intrigue. Monitor social media comments to see what people have to say and make sure to like and respond to these comments to keep the engagement flowing.

6. Adding Immediacy With Live Videos

More and more traffic on social media sites involves video instead of still images or text. This is driven by the major improvements in technology. The other side of the equation is that people are more likely to spend a few minutes engaging with a video than they are to read a long social media post.

Live video is now available on a wide range of social media channels. It represents one of the best tools available to increase your social media engagement. People are set to spend three times as much time engaging with a live video than they do if one is prerecorded.

After your live video, be sure to edit highlights and release those separately. This way, your content continues to live on and add value for people who could maybe not watch the event live. Your video will then continue to increase social media engagement for weeks or maybe even months after.

Summing It Up

Working to increase social media engagement is an ongoing task. You will need to spend some time getting to know your audience and then spending time with them everyday. Use analytics to see what efforts end up getting you the best results, this way you can then dedicate your time to the tasks which help increase social media engagement most dramatically to get the best out of every action you take with your brand.
