Most people know the importance of having a mobile friendly website. It allows visitors to easily navigate through your website and can display the content in a user friendly way, so people don’t have to pinch to zoom in and out of content which can be annoying for most people.
Well, Google are considering using mobile user experience as a ranking factor in their search algorithm, understanding this and the fact that there has been a significant increase in the number of people using mobile devices to visit websites, now is more important than ever to make sure your website is mobile device friendly.
How is Google able to do this?
Google announced a few months ago that it is able to fully render web pages. They are able to see what the user sees not just the code behind the page. Google can now see the whole user interface e.g. how a font size to a user looks on a mobile device, they are able to see how a page scrolls on a mobile device and if users can click the buttons on the page with ease. These a just a few factors that Google will take into consideration to gauge whether or not a website produces a good user experience on mobile devices.
Why is Mobile User Experience Important?
A Google spokesperson had the following to say:
[blockquote text=”61% of users are unlikely to return to a mobile site that they had trouble accessing from their phone. That includes sites that use fonts which are illegible on mobile, or sites where users have to zoom in or pan around excessively” show_quote_icon=”yes”]
Whilst Google haven’t made mobile user experience a ranking factor yet, it is quite likely that they will. At present Google penalizes sites that generate errors for mobile visitors. However even if Google do not make mobile user experience a ranking factor, making your website mobile friendly will most likely increase the number of conversions/enquiries you receive. We here at Dental Design believe the most effective way to make sure your visitors have a positive user experience on mobile devices (e.g. tablets and smartphones) is to have your site converted into a responsive site. This allows the content of your website to reorganise itself depending on the device viewing it, to display the content in a user friendly way.
