Why Pinterest?

25 November 2014 | | Marketing, Social Media

With more than 70 million users, Pinterest is one of the most popular social media networks. Being on Pinterest, engaging with your customers and growing your followers can benefit your business in many ways. On Pinterest you can receive comments, likes, impressions, repins and clicks which can drive traffic to your website, generate leads and build your Pinterest profile. The more you share and pin to your boards, the more you will get your practice name out there.

One of the biggest advantages of internet advertising, is that you don’t necessarily have to pay with money; at least not to get started. Instead, you can pay with your time. Pinterest is a new social sharing site that allows people to organise and share images found on the Web. You “pin” images to a board that’s about a specific topic, and each image links to your website.

People attracted by your selection of images can follow your pin boards, and when they click on an image they like, they’ll end up on your website. Social media sites are the big buzz around the internet and not only are they great for socialising with friends, but there are hundreds of marketers that use these sites to promote their business.

Pinterest the new social media network site is one of the fastest growing sites ever. One of the main reasons that social media exists in the first place is to engage. It gives people a platform to reach out to each other, whether that purpose is business or pleasure. We all know the hardest part of building a successful business is getting initial patients through the door. Once you have momentum, the opportunities for upselling present patients and using them to refer you to other prospects are practically endless.

So where should you start with your Pinterest account:

  • Use vertical imagery so you can see more of a picture.
  • Schedule pins so that your followers see regular pins throughout the day.
  • Make sure you only pin things that interest your followers and represent the practice.
  • Use a descriptive file name because it’s the name the pin will automatically be given.
  • Featured Pin – Have a board that features just your posts and not shared pins.
  • Potential followers will judge you by your cover photos so make sure the first 3-4 rows of boards are attractive.
  • Your username should match your real practice name, this will help people find you more easily.
  • Pin Multiple times to all categories that your pin fits into and make sure you pin these at different times of the day.
  • Check your repin links to make sure they go to the right source and aren’t spam.
  • Pinterest is a visual platform, so it’s vital to pin high quality visually appealing graphics.
  • jQuery pin it button for images is the best WordPress plugin as it keeps images responsive for mobile devices.
  • Publicise your profile by making sure your website has a link to your Pinterest profile.
  • Also add a link on your email signature which will help you to gain more followers.
  • Your details are displayed below each pin so users can see who you are, allowing them access to your boards.
  • By connecting Facebook and Twitter to Pinterest you can attract those who already follow you there.
  • Be Active by going to the “popular” feed and comment on the most popular pins.
  • Don’t just comment on any pin, make sure it’s something worthwhile and that you care about the subject.
  • Don’t over comment more than 2 or 3 times a day as Pinterest will mark this as spam and suspend your account.
  • Mention others in comments or pin description, if you say something nice this may encourage them to follow you.

You can find out what Pinterest users are pinning from your website by using analytics (pinterest.com/source/yourdomain.com), as long as you have the buttons on your website for different content, not just one button at the bottom of your homepage.
