Nowadays social media marketing is a critical component in the success of any business, big or small. Facebook is an important part of any business’s marketing strategy and it should be the objective of any business to have their own page. As Facebook becomes more and more popular and businesses are discovering the power of it, Tesco have launched their official Facebook page through which it will handle customer relations and offer exclusive deals.
The page, created by digital agency Harvest Digital, first went online a few weeks ago but was launched yesterday with a wider audience made aware of its presence, confirmed Mike Teasdale, planning director at Harvest Digital.
Facebook.com/TescoGB hosts content from all of Tesco’s online properties including the brand’s website and Tescorealfood.com.
Improving customer service through social media is a focus for Tesco and it is inviting customers to speak directly to the brand with its discussions and customer relations tabs.
It also plans to include promotions on the site, some of which will be exclusive to Facebook users, though Harvest said there were currently no plans to make the site transactional.
Tesco said on the official page it is looking to grow its four other Facebook pages for clothing, greener living and beauty.
So far, 5,470 have ‘liked’ the Tesco page, but unofficial pages count many more fans and the retailer is expected to rapidly increase its presence across the site.
While the supermarket giant has been at the forefront of online retailing, it has not always had an easy relationship with social media.
Two years ago, Tesco was looking into an investigation after a group of staff posted abusive comments about customers in a Facebook Group called ‘Tesco employees could rule the world’.
