Blogging seems to have been put on the back burner since social media has exploded on to the digital scene. However, blogs certainly do still have advantages for dental websites and can help your search engine optimisation, in addition to showing your intellectual leadership.
Whilst social media sites do serve a great purpose in providing a platform for quick gratification and for promoting daily special offers etc, blogs tend to serve a more in depth purpose.
Blogs are great for explaining about new services you would like to promote, providing the advantages and disadvantages etc. This not only helps to tell your patients about the great new service; it provides new text for Google to crawl. The search engines should hopefully pick up the new keywords and then begin ranking you for them in the search engine results pages, thus increasing your website traffic.
Another good blog topic is to write about current events in the dental industry. It’s advantageous to become a resource in the industry on hot topics, as it will not only provide you and your website with authority, if it’s something that is being searched for regularly it is also likely to increase traffic.
A good tip when reviving your blog is to stick to a manageable schedule. It’s better to blog once per week and add an extra one in when you have time, than to try and write every day which can become an impossible task.
Whilst we’re singing the praises of blogs over social media, there’s certainly no harm in promoting your blog on social networking sites. The is because it will give your followers a more in depth look at topics of interest and of course, direct them to your main website.
