Google have released an App which is available for download via the iTunes store that enables you to search using voice commands.
For busy working mothers, professionals and others generally on the go, finding a local dentist has just gotten easier. Of course it’s available on Android, but clever Google have made it accessible to iPhone, Blackberry and Nokia too.
The voice search launch – Say it to get it; Utilises Google search algorithms of the worldwide web in order to provide search results that are both local and relevant including cinema times, latest scores and local business searches
It has an accent feature which lets you choose your English accent. They haven’t quite made the distinction between the West Bromwich and South Yorkshire accents, but rather it gives the option to choose between English New Zealand, English South African, English US, English UK etc. Google suggest this will provide more accurate local search results.
In development, Google compiled a database of over 230 billion google’d search terms and calculated the probability of what a user may say next, improving the reliability of the system when it fails to understand a spoken word.
In practical terms, the new system is contributing to a reduction in word error rate of between 6 and 52 per cent, depending on the task and complexity involved. This equals a more satisfied search result.
Having your practice recommended as a possibility in a voice command search will still relay on good old fashioned SEO, something here at Dental Design we are interested in getting right. It’s always great to see advances in the way people can get access to your practice, but from the go your practice website needs to be optimised as local and relevant for the search term to even begin to feature in the listing.
