YouTube video ideas and tips for business

YouTube video ideas and tips for business
23 March 2012 | | Internet, Marketing, Technology

Youtube is one of the most used and most successful social networking websites online. Millions of people view videos on Youtube and interact with the website daily, figures show that in general the number of people viewing videos on a topic is at least 10 times more than people reading an article on the same topic! It therefore makes sense for your dental practice to use this to your advantage, having your own videos online will help to promote and draw attention to your dental practice – in the long run generating more hype and interest for your practice. The following article highlights some key ideas and tips for businesses wishing to promote themselves through the use of Youtube.

YouTube is the number one video search engine in the earth; but that is not the only reason why many small businesses around the world love it like crazy. The reason is simple,  YouTube helps businesses generate leads and get clients on a 24/7 basis and the number of people visiting the business video is at least  10 times more (provided basic optimization is done)  when compared to people reading  articles etc.

Small businesses are thriving because of YouTube, if you doubt me, I want you to type “YouTube success stories “in Google and see it for yourself.

Since YouTube is all about videos, it is important for you to know the ways to create videos in a cost effective manner. You should consider your YouTube videos as an asset and not as a file of X size running for Y minutes.

There is a myth amongst people in the business world that one should spend thousands of dollars to create a YouTube video and amount of money spent on YouTube should be proportional to the size of the company, this is utter BS.

The minimum you invest in your YouTube video, the maximum you will gain, particularly if you are a small business.   Below, I have shared some very useful tips that will help you create effective videos for your small business.

  • Do not go for a costly camera, technology upgrades itself every few years and the costly HD camera that you bought today can be gotten for peanuts in the future. I would suggest you to buy pocket HD cameras that are cheap (around $100 – $200). The advantage of a pocket HD camera is that you can carry it anywhere without an issue and you will not feel shy while shooting a video (costly cameras are big always) as the camera looks like a cell phone. Moreover, pocket HD cameras functions are very simple when compared to a costly HD camera.
  • Never ever hire people to shoot your small business video, always do it yourself as it will save a lot of money. Just surf through small business videos on YouTube and learn the simple techniques they have used to create clean and crisp video. Use your free time to plan for videos; I’m sure you will come up with at least 2 video ideas every week if you know your business thoroughly.  Don’t bother about the angles etc, if you feel that the video content is worthy enough, just upload it YouTube and do some basic optimization.
  • People love authentic video testimonials, and getting video testimonial from a happy customer is the easiest job in the earth. So, whenever you have a happy and loyal customer, approach them and ask whether they are interested to give a testimonial and upload those to YouTube on a consistent basis. Since you can shoot testimonials in  single angle, the video will always look mature!
  • Small business customers always love to know what’s happening behind the scenes, especially if you are running a hotel or a bakery.  So, you can always shoot videos of your employees and can explain people about what’s happening in the background. This will increase your customers trust in your business and will help your small business gain you more customers in the future.
  • Throw competitions to your customers through your YouTube video; make sure you are engaging with your viewers on a daily basis so that it will increase the reputation of your business.  Shoot videos of your celebrations and share it with your viewers, this will make them feel as if it is their own business!
  • If you are a small business that has both physical as well as online store (T shirt shop, helmet shop etc), it is important for you to create  YouTube videos explaining the products that you are selling online to increase the trust of your buyers. Online buyers are always worried about what they will get as they have no idea about how the product actually looks and feels like, when you explain everything properly about the product through your YouTube video, it will create enormous interest and trust among your buyers.
  • Name your customer in the video and let them know how important they are to your business, one happy customer can generate 10 potential customers, so always ensure that your loyal customers are named in the video.
  • Make sure your video contains links to your website in the description and also has ending clips that carries your facebook page and your twitter name. This will ensure that you keep in touch with your customers in one form or another and  will help you to keep your engagement level high in the long run (social media is all about engagement).
  • You cannot make a YouTube video go viral, so do not expect your first YouTube video to gain a million views. Instead, populate YouTube with your small business videos that are perfectly optimized (always have your small business name and your area in the title along with the subject, write a long description and add relevant tags), when you upload videos regularly, you will eventually see your view count raising and it will never end. You need to be patient and persistent, that’s all you need to do.

I don’t know whether I have covered everything here, but I honestly believe that these are key points that small businesses should note while creating their youtube video. Do not believe in people who say that video is all about professionalism and flashiness, video is about heart and when your video has it, it will attract people and will generate leads and potential customers!
