Google has been awarded a series of patents which could allow them to serve ‘environmental condition’ pay per click ads to devices.
These forward thinking patents currently aren’t being acted upon, Google assures; however if they were to be developed, it could allow for devices to be fitted with sensors which records data including temperature, humidity, light, sound and air composition which could trigger an ad.
For example,
“Advertisements for air conditioners can be sent to users located at regions having temperatures above a first threshold, while advertisements for winter overcoats can be sent to users located at regions having temperatures below a second threshold,” explains the patent document.
This therefore means that Google could extend their data collection from not only online activity but your offline activity too and serve ads accordingly.
What does this potentially mean for dentists? This is somewhat unclear, especially as Google haven’t even begun to integrate the technology. However, there is the possibility that if a person is in the vicinity of your practice, they could be served your ad based on location, allowing for even more exposure and opportunities to make contact.
For now we are still working hard on providing successful pay per click advertising in the online sphere. If you have any questions about pay per click advertising give us a call on: 01202 677 277.
