So you have just started your own practice or are thinking about rebranding, what do you need…a great domain name.
Whether you are thinking about your online marketing now or in the future, securing your domain name is important.
Below are a few things to consider when choosing a domain name:
Do I choose a domain name with keywords in it?
A few years ago Google used to give websites with keywords in the domain a bit of an advantage – even when they didn’t have much other SEO.
However, over the last few years Google recognised that many people were just buying domain names with keywords in them in order to easily rank on page 1 – who wouldn’t! So, Google decided to update their algorithm to place less weight on this factor.
So it is not necessary nowadays to have keywords in the domain name.
Do I use my brand name?
Using your brand name as your domain name is what you should be aiming to do.
Why? Because users will likely be typing your brand name, in various forms, into Google to find you. Using your brand name as the domain name helps users recognise that your website will likely be the most relevant for their search.
What happens if my brand name has keywords in it?
Not a problem.
Google take many factors into consideration when ranking websites. So, even if your domain name has some keywords in it you will be fine.
It might even be possible to use exact match domains i.e. dentistlondon.com. But make sure the user experience and content of the website is good, as you do not want Google thinking you are trying to spam the web and gain an advantage using this domain.
