Following on from a recent article “How to create a Google+ business page in 5 simple steps” , Google has now introduced ‘direct connect’. Direct Connect allows you to bypass the usual search results by using + before the brand name allowing you to only see the brand’s Google+ profile and an image attached, completely removing the need for the usual SERP (search engine results page).
For example…
At the moment only a few large brands are eligible for direct connect. However, as always with Google they tend to roll these things out to larger companies and trickle down to smaller businesses.
Here are some preparation tips to get your practice ready for direct connect:
1) Sign up for a Google+ profile page
2) Connect your website by adding a badge to your practice website (similar to a facebook or twitter button)
3) Post regularly on your Google+ profile
4) Drive users to add you to their circles
After that it’s a case of the waiting game for Google to roll out the changes!
So what are the benefits? Firstly, it shows that your dental practice is an early adopter when it comes to social media and seo therefore making the practice seem modern and innovative. Furthermore, it rules out your competitors and any negative press when searching for your brand, making it less likely for patients to be enticed elsewhere.
Although, the drawbacks of this new change is the doubt of whether or not consumers will actually use the new technology. This is because Bing previously had a similar offering called ‘Bing’s best match’ which was later dropped presumably due to lack of public usage.
As always with Google’s algorithm changes it’s best to be prepared and to be ahead of your industry than lagging behind in order to reap the potential benefits.
