Halloween isn’t traditionally celebrated by dentists in the same way it is loved by children. This is due to the sugar filled treats provided to little ones dressed as their favourite scary characters (we’re sure a few ‘demon dentists’ are in the mix!). However this doesn’t mean that your dental practice has to miss out on the fun.
Social media is a great tool to humanise your practice and show that you are real people too (who will occasionally eat sweets!)
Here’s a few tips on how to promote a healthier Halloween to your patients using social media.
Get in the spirit! There’s nothing wrong with putting up a few Halloween themed decorations in the waiting area to make patient’s visits a little more fun. Share these photos on instagram and have fun with filters to make your waiting room look spookier!
Let’s be honest your patients are going to need all of the fluoride they can get after all of those sweets! So why not fill up a basket with some toothpaste samples and give them out to anyone who asks ‘trick or treat!’
There’s hundreds of great recipes online which you can share which use sugar alternatives, or even better, fruit and veg as their main ingredients.
The research against excessive sugar consumption is very real, but Halloween is all about having lots of frightening fun and it’s only one day in the year after all. Once it’s out of the way, remind parents to stop fretting about the monstrous amounts of tempting treats filling the house and to book a hygienist appointment to rid themselves of any build of up from sugar.
