What should you be doing as a small business on social media to stand out?

The Do’s:

  • Be active, engage and make new contacts
  • Spend time and effort creating a complete profile
  • Be realistic in your expectations
  • Define your target market and how they will create value to your brand
  • Create a monthly calendar for scheduling posts
  • Adapt your practices as needed
  • Appeal to consumers with image-centric content
  • Experiment
  • Credit others if your share somebody else’s good work
  • Answer every question posted, tweeted or messaged to you
  • Build an audience using a variety of social media platforms, via your website, blog and face to face
  • Be engaging by posting and communicating on a regular basis
  • Be a good listener and respond to feedback respectfully and in a timely manner
  • Keep messages consistent and show brand personality
  • Participate in conversions and social activities among many individuals
  • Talk about the interests of your patients
  • Publish content that encourages sharing
  • Publish content that is mobile-friendly
  • Build a strong social network and build your reputation
  • Seek loyalty
  • Use platforms that support your marketing goals

The Dont’s:

  • Use social media to overtly sell
  • Overwhelm followers with too much information
  • Shy away from new tactics
  • Think that you havent got time
  • Spread yourself too thin by not commiting and posting on a regular basis
  • Give generic or apathetic responses
  • Ignore patient inquiries
  • Depend solely on paid advertising to build an audience
  • Turn down opportunities to continue engaging
  • Be afraid to connect with people who have different opinions
  • Talk only about the services that you offer
  • Publish content that is only self-serving
  • Publish pixelated images
  • Participate in social media without identifying goals
  • Solely focus on rankings
