Instagram is a fantastic platform for sharing your brand and business with the world but make sure you set goals before jumping into it head first, this will allow you to know what to look out for moving forward!
DO’S
- Post consistently to your feed
- Include the link to your blog in your Instagram profile and let followers know you have a “Link in profile” to access latest blog posts
- Tag the location of your image so others can find your account
- Create a distinct style for your social media voice and blog
- Add a relevant URL to the “location” section
- Try to vary the composition of photos posted
- Run occasional giveaways to thank your followers for their support
- Schedule your instagram posts – It’s so handy to not have to think about your instagram feed in real time
- Design quotes in Photoshop or a free online program and share in your instagram feed for variety
- Make it easy to be found
- Team spotlights – Include interesting facts about them
- Feature your patients
- Ask your followers an insightful question that will encourage comments
- Follow users in your niche and comment on their posts
- Pay attention to the details, it’s a great way to make an interesting photograph in a bland situation
- Reveal “behind the scenes” of your day to day business, as well as personal photos of your life, leisure time etc
- Treat your Instagram feed like an extension of your brand
- Engage with your followers. If somebody takes the time to comment, take the time to comment back!
- Post an introduction of yourself
- Use hashtags to categorize some of your best content
- Participate in commonly used hashtags
- Create an iPhone shortcut with a list of different hashtags for different photos and next time you post, save yourself 2 minutes of time!
- Analyse, spot trends which can help you learn and improve
DONT’S
- Wing it without a plan in mind
- Share more than 10 hashtags on your photos. (It’s a good idea to share your hashtags in a “comment” on your photo rather than in the caption)
- Make your account private
- Ask people to follower you
- Just sell your service
- Get too caught up with filters
- Forget that primarily your Instagram must be curated to reflect your brand and business
- Post dull and blurry images
- Post everything and more than 1-3 times a day
- Over-saturate your feed – space out your posting times strategically!
- Consistency is the key with Instagram imagery and how they are displayed
- Forget to add a caption to every post!
- Use photos that belong to someone else without giving them direct credit in the caption
- Be fake
- Expect overnight success – It takes time to experiment and find your own voice
