Is SEO dead?

SEO isn’t dead, but some strategies are.

Many of the claims that ‘SEO is dead’ stem from one big misunderstanding – that SEO is always the same. The reason why it doesn’t work from some businesses anymore is because they may still be using obsolete strategies. The best optimisation strategy is the most recent ones, in line with Google’s latest ranking algorithm criteria. 

Here are some dead strategies to avoid: 

 

Poor-quality links

SEO is alive if you apply an effective and legitimate link building strategy, by earning high-quality backlinks. It doesn’t work if you’re trying to circumvent Google’s rules by: 

  • Buying links 
  • Creating a private blog network 
  • Having many links from article directories and other poor quality websites. 

There is a principle called domain authority transfer from a site to a page it links to. If many reputable websites link to you, Google understands that your site also has a good reputation and increases your domain authority. However, if many low-quality sites link back to yours, your domain authority decreases and your site is treated as unreliable. 

 

Keyword spam

Keywords are a big part of SEO. Using the right keywords in the right proportion will help you achieve relevant organic traffic. However, these strategies take time and don’t work overnight. We recommend avoiding the following practices that go against Google’s rules. 

  • Keyword stuffing (using too many keywords in content) 
  • Hiding keyword (adding keyword in a white font on a white background)
  • Cloaking (showing one optimised page to Google and another to users who click on the result)

 

Poor content

Content is king! Good, quality content is the vehicle for promoting your expertise and experience in your field, helping potential patients find the answers to their problems and featuring relevant keywords. The main qualities for good content for SEO are: 

  • Uniqueness (no duplicated content)
  • Freshness (the content must be constantly written and updated to the site)
  • Relevance (the content must be relevant to your line of business) 
  • Authoritativeness (the content must contain trustworthy and verifiable information)

Your website’s content shouldn’t solely be used to include keywords and bring new visitors to the page. This doesn’t offer a reader anything new, useful, helpful or interesting so Google won’t want to show this type of result in searches.
