Key Factors when planning an SEO strategy

SEO is an essential marketing strategy for any online business that wants to significantly improve their visibility. If your goal is to entice new traffic, then you will need to put an SEO strategy in place that allows you to get an insight into what people like to find out more about and what the search engines like to rank.

There is going to be 3 key factors to think about when putting together your SEO strategy and these are the following:

Content

We all know how important Content is when it comes to an SEO strategy and I don’t want to bore you with the statement “Content is King…..” but it’s true.

What is going to set you apart from your competition is powerful unique content. Have a browse at what your competitors are publishing and start working on how you can elaborate more to make yours stand out. Keyword Research will be your best friend when undertaking this part. You need to research what users are searching to make sure your content can answer the queries they are searching for and make sure the content you are posting is informative and will make sure they do not finish reading your content with a list of unanswered questions.

On Page Optimisation

Technical on-page optimisation is the heart of your website. Without this, the website will be dead…not literally! But visibility wise. 50% of the work will be completed when you have gone through and amended the Meta titles/descriptions. The other 50% of the work includes:

  • Including targeted keywords to the content without ‘stuffing’.
  • Use of H1/H2 tags.
  • Make sure the website is loading at fast speeds.
  • Replace images with optimised images.
  • Make sure the content on the pages is not ‘thin’ content and easily digestible for the user.
  • ALT tags on images.
  • Correct use of internal/external linking.
  • Crawl for broken links and fix.

There are many more factors here however this is to give you an idea. It is important to note that these tasks are not ‘one offs’ you will need to monitor this on a monthly basis and make the necessary changes often.

Reverse Engineering

The other important aspect in SEO is reverse engineering. If you are not reverse engineering what’s working for other competitors, then all you’re doing is guessing.

Reverse engineering in SEO includes the following:

Analyse your competitors:

  • Check the Top-Level Domain
  • Sitemap to understand the structure of the website.
  • Run a speed test.
  • Run a mobile friendly test.
  • Check DA (Domain Authority)
  • Check the UX of their website.

Understand competitors off-page strategy:

Once you have gone through the above, it is your time to BUILD YOUR FOUNDATION! Therefore, SEO is a long-term strategy. You need to monitor, research, and implement consistently to ensure you are putting in the necessary groundwork to ensure you are being as visible as possible.
