1. Planning

Developing professional, effective marketing strategies starts with improving team structure. Whether you employ an internal marketing team, outsource to an agency or use a combination of both, great marketing starts with a well-organised team.

For a team or agency to fully understand your practice, brand and message, it takes time. If you do not have the time to incorporate new team members or agencies into your company, this should be factored into your decision.

2. Success

A quality website requires expertise in several disciplines to truly fulfil its potential. It is more efficient and cost-effective to put a team in place with the skill sets needed to execute the process in order. Being a success online requires much more than an attractive design. Focusing on the right target audience, campaigns and goals is extremely important.

3. Attitude

It’s important to be realistic with your campaigns. Star performers complain less and have a far stronger “can-do” attitude. Less successful marketers tend to blame external constraints on their performance whilst star performers take more responsibility and ownership.

Long-term success for your practice can only happen when trust and respect is established between the agency and practice.

4. Execution

The most successful marketing teams face challenging goals all the time and great execution is one of the only ways to achieve them. If you wait for something to be perfect, you’re going to miss the boat. The great thing about online marketing is that you always have the opportunity to go back and change and improve.

5. Communication & Teamwork

Successful teams work in collaboration with eachother, whether through regular monthly meetings, team building workshops or other company events, its important to know the people you’re working with. Its important to learn from your colleagues, friends and competitors, using the knowledge out there and building upon it. You don’t have the time to learn everything from experience, so read, watch, observe others and then give it your own twist.

6. Test & Measure

Online marketing includes so many variables that there’s no way for you to get it right on your first attempt. It doesn’t matter if you’re in a small marketing team or in a large one; the process of measuring and analysing your results needs to be in a permanent feature. Every single campaign needs to be measurable, otherwise you’re just wasting money.
