In a recent study by Search Engine Journal, they suggest over 50% of local business websites receive less than 500 visits per month.
It was discovered that with a data pool of over 11,000 websites the average traffic sources were; 50% from organic search, 37% direct visits, with little to zero email/paid/display sessions. On top of that only 5% came from social media.
What does this report tell us?
By not opening up your website to extra channels of traffic you are not reaching the full potential of the website performance. Even if you’re hitting organic search goals, a competitor running an aggressive advertising or email marketing campaign can cause a disruption to those goals.
Getting the best from Digital Marketing
SEO
- Have a clear and concise strategy and website layout on how to optimise for your targeted search terms.
- Create unique, trustworthy, and relevant content for the pages to increase chances of ranking and average time spent on the site by users.
- Ensure baseline on-page optimisation factors are correctly set for best practices (Meta titles, header tags, keyword distribution, etc).
Once the website is optimised for search the following methods can be used to utilise more streams of traffic:
- Pay-Per-Click: Promoting ads within the search results that target manually selected keywords. These ads can be set up to be shown only to certain demographics and locations.
- Social Media: Creating a profile on popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. By doing so you can show a more personal side of the business and capture a ton of voice that your audience will relate and engage with. Alongside this you can also run ads on said platforms that are displayed naturally within user’s feeds.
- Email Marketing: Send out promotional newsletters to your audience’s mailboxes which can include captivating designs and call-to-actions. Go a step further and use methods such as automation and segmentation to increase performance.
- Web Design: If you’re looking to branch into different sectors of digital marketing then you most likely already have a website. However, that website may not be set up to best practice. Google reward sites nowadays which are mobile-responsive, easy to navigate, have quick load times, and do not use out dated elements such as flash.
All of these methods can be overwhelming for someone outside the industry with no prior knowledge. If you are looking to increase your website’s traffic then feel free to give us a call on 01202 677 277.
