Did you know that the updates you place on your practice's Facebook page are only seen by a mere 16% of your fans?
It’s well documented that Facebook is trying their hardest to monetise their social media offering; for a while they have offered Facebook Ads to the right of your news feeds, on a pay per click or cost per million basis.
However, have you noticed over the past few months more brand posts are appearing in your main news feed? This is due to Facebook’s ‘promoted posts’ feature. It works in a similar model to Facebook ads; this time you can promote one of your status updates rather than needing to pen an effective advert. With the promoted posts feature, your status updates are now given the opportunity to be seen by your whole fan base, in addition to friends of fans to spread your reach even further.
Although, before you go wild with your credit card and promote all of your status updates, keep these tips in mind:
Shelf life– will the post still be relevant in 4 days’ time? Posts will remain on people’s news feeds for longer than a usual status update.
Time– Has it been 6 hours since publication? Some posts can go viral on their own, wait and see what’s happening with your post, as you could be wasting your money.
Impact– Does the post contain calls to action or links which would encourage the user to behave in a desired way (other than just liking your page)
Results– Has the post already exceeded a 1% engagement rate? Total fan number divided by (likes comments shares).
If you answer yes to all four of these questions, it’s time to promote your post!
The good thing about promoting posts is that it is measurable. Facebook will email you an itemised receipt documenting how many impressions your post had, in addition to how many clicks, likes and comments the post generated.
