For the first time ever, Google have released a version of the Search Quality Rating Guidelines in full, it is a 160-page PDF document aimed at helping Google Search Quality Raters understand how to rate the search results they are testing.
“Ratings from evaluators do not determine individual site rankings, but are used help us understand our experiments.” Google’s Mimi Underwood was quoted saying last week. “The evaluators base their ratings on guidelines we give them; the guidelines reflect what Google thinks search users want.”
Google also indicated that the document will be updated regularly, making major rewrites available to SEOs and webmasters. This will make it much easier to get insight into what Google feels searchers are looking for in their search results moving forward.
But did Google just unveil the secret to its ranking algorithm? Unfortunately not. This is just a document used by consultants that help them rate the quality of the search results on Google and on Google’s test servers. The algorithms don’t read these guidelines. Although, it is a great way to get in the mindset of what types of pages Google wants to show in their search results and is certainly a document the SEO team at Dental Design is going to take note of.
