Matt Cutts , Google Head of Spam, via Twitter yesterday that a version 4.0 of the Panda Algorithm was released. Google updates the Panda Algorithm (and other algorithms) all the time with little tweaks occurring twice monthly on average.
It’s designed to prevent sites with poor quality content from working their way into Googles top search results.
The first Panda release saw a huge shift in the SERPS with about 11% of English sites being affected in the US, followed closely by an international update for English queries, affecting 2% of queries.
The latest Panda update has been designed to be a ‘soft’ update. There is one Googler on the team working on ways to help small websites and businesses do better in the Google search results. This is great news for a dental practice website. We recommend making sure your website is not considered ‘poor quality’ by Google.
Here are a few indicators of poor quality;
Matt Cutts’ original definition of what the Panda Algorithm gives more insight into what a poor quality site looks like versus a high quality site.
“This update is designed to reduce rankings for low quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on.”
