Over a third of the UK population logs on to Facebook every single day according to an article in Marketing Week. Is your dental practice missing an opportunity?
Facebook has released these UK usage figures in an attempt to address the ‘misinformation’ that users are suffering from ‘Facebook Fatigue’ and are no longer regularly logging on to the social networking site.
Does your dental practice have a presence on Facebook? According to Facebook’s regional Director James Quarles, the network enjoys 33million monthly active users in the UK. He also revealed that their 24million daily active users is more than double that of the X Factor final last year which reached 9.5million.
In light of this, whilst for dental practices it’s very unrealistic to think that their pages would be able to reach anywhere near such high usage on Facebook; it goes to show that those in your community are certainly using the service and if you do not have a presence on there you could be missing out on an opportunity to market towards them, for a relatively low cost in comparison to other media.
However, it is not simply a task of having a business page on Facebook, it needs to be regularly (that’s daily!!) updated and should attempt to be as engaging as possible, else you’ll lose likes quickly.
Is the return worth all of the effort? Social Media unfortunately isn’t a direct response medium and may not necessarily produce measurable results in terms of new patients, like pay per click for instance would. Nonetheless, social media should be seen as a branding tool, online word of mouth if you will- don’t you want to know what is being said about your brand online and be in control of it?
Furthermore, social media produces a drip advertising approach in that users that like your page may not necessarily become a patient today, or tomorrow, but when they do need a dentist, your practice will be at the top of their mind due to increased exposure to your brand.
Let’s be honest, Facebook has been around for the last ten years or so and doesn’t look to be going away any time soon. If you would like advice on how to set up and manage your dental practice’s Facebook page give dental design a call on 01202 677 277 and we’ll be happy to help you.
