Microsoft has knocked Google off the top spot to claim the title of the UK brand with the best reputation. The computer giant was crowned number one in the annual Business Superbrand Top 500 survey.
Votes were cast by a panel of 35 experts and more than 1,700 British business professionals.
Rolls-Royce Group retained its second place position while Blackberry rose from 42nd to third.
Virgin Atlantic came in fourth with search engine Googledropping down to fifth position.
The survey was carried out by the Centre for Brand Analysis.
Chairman Stephen Cheliotis told Sky News: “Perhaps Google has become too big and people are maybe just starting to lose their love affair with this small upstart which was once very creative and very different.” The brands were judged on three criteria – quality, reliability and distinction.
Predictably, the reputation of the UK’s financial institutions slumped in the survey.
Royal Bank of Scotland crashed out of the top 500 altogether while UBS and Morgan Stanley made the list of top 10 fallers.
Last week, Walmart came out on top in a survey by Brand Finance of the world’s most valuable brands.
