I’m sorry. I know, I know, why am I talking about next year when it’s only October? We’ve not even passed Halloween yet, let alone thought about Christmas, and yet here I am with 2023 in the title. Look, I already apologised and I’m not going to do it again. The fact of the matter is, we really do have to start thinking about our plans for next year before next year is upon us.
How, then, does one plan in this kind of environment? Interest rates are rising, cost of living is still the thing on everyone’s mind and the government is…well, y’know. Still, even with all those distractions going on, the sensible practice simply has to have a clear idea of what their marketing strategy is going to be for the next year. So let’s start with the basics and take stock of where you are right now and what you’d like to improve.
Firstly, are you happy with the way that your website looks going into 2023? Is it starting to show its age? Does it reflect where you are now as a practice? Are you happy that it’ll do the job of attracting patients to your practice? The average dental website takes around 3 months to build. That’ll put us into January even if you decided to get started today (see what I mean about it being 2023 already?). If it’s not where you’d like it to be you need to speak to your website developers so they can start planning on getting it up to scratch.
You also need to look at your marketing budgets. What’s the big focus going to be? High end treatment? New patients? Whose diary is in the most need of filling? As such you’ll need to consider what your priorities are in terms of spend. Any SEO work undertaken now will start to bear fruit in the new year. Alternatively, you might consider a pay-per-click campaign to go live in the new year. Traditionally it is a good time to capture patients who’ve more often than not made resolutions to improve their health and physique and, when it comes to dentistry, their smile.
As I’ve mentioned before, failing to plan is a sure recipe for failing to succeed. 2023 may seem a long way off but in many ways it’s here right now, so it needs to be in your thoughts as you plan ahead. In what may be the most challenging post-Christmas in a long time you cannot afford to not be fully prepared for what January and beyond will bring. And that preparation starts right now. Happy New Year!
