Even though Facebook’s news feed is designed to show you the most relevant posts, keeping up with the constant stream of content on a day to day basis can be a job of its own. Every time you visit Facebook, your news feed contains up to 1,500 new posts. Well now Facebook has given us the option to save links, places, music and much more for when we have time to read it without worrying about forgetting things. I am definitely a culprit for sending things to my email with the intention of reading it later but it always seems to get forgotten.
#1: Save Articles to Favourites on Facebook
Facebook has now introduced a new tool called “Save on Facebook” that will change how you save posts both on your desktop and mobile devices. Not only can you save posts to read later, you’ll get a reminder to look at the items you’ve saved which will be compiled into saved items in a new section that’s being added to the “More” tab on mobile. Save is intended as an area to catch up on items of interest. When you find an article you want to save to read later, click the down arrow in the upper-right corner of the update and choose save to name the article. It only works when users are connected to the internet and does not save content offline. You can then check the favourites list in your sidebar and you’ll see a new link called Saved. This new bookmarking feature is certainly worth a try if you want to keep all of your searching within Facebook as opposed to a third-party app.
#2: Make a list of your Favourite Pages
Facebook “interest lists” are a way to organise specific people and pages you follow. It means you can quickly go to a list and view any posts you may have missed without having to scroll through your entire news feed. Facebook interest lists still need to be kept small though otherwise that defeats the point in not missing certain posts.
#3: Bundle Posts for Easy Access
Bitly.com offers bundled posts which is one of the quickest ways to save posts from Facebook, and lets you save multiple links in one place. You can even create more than one bundle so you can organise your links by subject. If you don’t want others to view your bundle(s), click the lock to make it private, and each bundle you create has its own URL which you can bookmark for easy access later. To make a bundle, head over to bitly.com and click on Bundles, then select Create a New Bundle. This allows you to start adding URLs.
To save a post from Facebook, click on the timestamp or date, and copy and paste the URL into your bundle. If you’ve already saved URLs you can search for and add them as well. You can even rename a URL by clicking on the pencil icon to name it something that’s easy to remember. If you save a URL and its ever removed from Facebook, you won’t be able to get back to that Facebook post. When you’ve finished viewing an item in the bundle, you can remove it by clicking the X.
