A day in the life of a dental marketing photographer…..

People often ask me ‘what it is like to travel around the country?’ and ‘don’t you get bored of taking pictures of dentists?’

The answer is always no, no I don’t. There’s not many jobs where you can travel from one end of the country to the other and meet some great people on the way, whilst doing a job you love. No two dental practices are the same and the same goes for the people I meet.

One of my recent jobs sent me up to the Manchester area to photograph a newly established practice in the lovely town of Disdbury. When I arrived, slightly resembling a donkey with all my kit, I was welcomed in by Kelly on reception. I was slightly earlier than planned, so I happily sat in the waiting area with a cuppa and chatted through how the practice was doing since opening only weeks previous.

Dental Design are currently producing a new website for M20 Dental and I was visiting to produce the imagery to make it more engaging and personal. Also, as I’m google accredited, complete a 360 tour of the practice to place onto the website and add onto google maps.

Once completing the 360 tour (https://dental-design-products.co.uk/client_area/360-tours/M20Dental) and after the dental nurse had finished running around clearing the sides, moving things around and making sure the surgeries were looking their best, It was time to take the staff and group photos. The moment the staff dread! I can’t remember a client I’ve visited where they haven’t asked to be photoshopped and made ten years younger. But I guess that’s why I stay well behind the camera, knowing how I dislike my own photo being taken!

We have a laugh during these sessions, often capturing moments between the staff that really show the bond between the staff which ultimately gives that welcoming feeling when entering the practice.


As the majority of my appointments take place over or around the practices lunch hour, I tend to photograph the staff before completing the practice images. I wouldn’t want the staff missing their lunch after all!


The practice photos can be fairly quick to produce, as I’ve already scouted out shots whilst completing the 360 tour. When capturing the practice I’m always photographing to fit with their website design, considering wide angled images for banners, negative space, smaller quick link icons and the style of photography that will fit with their design brief, finding those artist angles, as well as capturing the feel of the practice itself.


M20 Dental was particularly beautiful and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming.
